Funding Sources for Assistive Technology
|
Students in the Public Schools:
If an IEP team determines that assistive technology is necessary for a blind or visually
impaired student to access the curriculum or to address the expanded core
curriculum they must furnish the equipment and make it available as necessary for
home and school use. Schools in California may acquire technology through federal
low incidence funding (for those with low incidence disabilities like visual
impairments) or the state's low vision reimbursement program. Call us at
559-444-0544 for more information.
Adults who are legally blind may qualify for Department of Rehabiitation (DOR)
services. DOR will provide equipment they determine is necessary for a person to
access school, work, or independent living activities. Older adults who are blind or
have low vision may qualify for programs and some equipment through DOR, Title VII
Chapter 2 funding, or through the Department of Aging. Medicare or your insurance
company may pay for prescriptive devices recommended by your optometrist or
ophthalmologist. Call us for more information.
Those who do not qualify for other programs or who do not receive desired
technology through the above programs may qualify for a grant. If your family income
is less than $50,000 and your cash assets are less than $20,000, you may apply for a
grant that will pay for 50% of any equipment that costs $200-$6000. Other sources
may be available to you, so call us at 559-444-0544 to help you.
If your income exceeds the limit of the above programs or if you would like equipment
that they will not provide, we do accept Mastercard, Visa, checks, and of course cash.
In the future we hope to offer financing with low monthly payments as well as used
equipment at discounted rates.
